Grand Strand WIT (women in technology) is an organization of local professionals focused on advancing local STEM education and mentoring girls interested in STEM careers.
On Thursday, March 10th, 15 female high school students and 40 local professionals met for lunch at Grumpy Monk. As each person introduced herself to the rest of the room, it became abundantly clear just how under-promoted is the large presence of female tech professionals! It left everyone who attended inspired and motivated to continue connecting.
Dr. Jean French from the Computer Science program at Coastal Carolina University told the story of her career in IT and shared about a new online Masters program for professionals looking to dive deeper into computer science. She also shared about a student women computing group that is bringing STEM education to local Pre-K programs.
Brandy Incorvia, the WIT Chairperson, shared about the robotics teams that are heading to WORLDS from Horry and Georgetown County.
Students from the Academy of Arts, Science, and Technology networked over lunch, many asking about internships and shadowing opportunities.
